Our Story

Home Instead's story, mission and care philosophy.

At Home Instead, we believe the future of ageing is at Home!

No matter how old we are, home is a space where we feel most comfortable. A place where we feel most at ease. And a sanctuary where we feel most safe.

By adopting a relationships-first approach to providing care, support and a helping hand to seniors, as opposed to the traditional task-based approach – we are committed to changing the face of ageing, by putting seniors first, and are on a mission to enhance the lives of ageing adults and their families.

OUR MISSION: To enhance the lives of ageing adults and their families.

Everything we do at Home Instead is driven by our universal mission to enhance the lives of ageing adults and their families. Every day, we strive to make this mission a reality in every home in which we have the privilege of caring with our quality care, companionship and support.

Over 90% of Australians want to continue living independently in the comfort of their own home as they age. We want to be able to grow older at home with independence, choice, flexibility and control over our lives. Home Instead is committed to helping older Australians and their families achieve this by providing the best in-home care and support to meet our client’s needs.

Home Instead strives to be one of the most globally admired brands by actively Changing the Face of Ageing ©. We work towards this through four key leaderships:

We take special care of people. And at the heart of our business are our CAREGivers. A diverse group of caring, compassionate and dependable people dedicated to providing older Australians the best in-home care and support they need, and deserve.

We personally match our CAREGivers to your individual preferences and ensure consistency of CAREGivers supporting you, regardless of your changing needs or circumstances.

You rely on us and for this reason all of our CAREGivers are fully insured and undergo pre-employment checks including screening for mandatory requirements, structured interviews, comprehensive reference and criminal background checks.

All Home Instead CAREGivers receive a formal orientation and undertake our unique Advanced CAREGiver Education (ACE) program.

Home Instead CAREGivers can ‘Earn While You Learn’ through our registered training organisation, the Home Instead Academy, and access the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community) to obtain a nationally accredited qualification while they work as a CAREGiver.

Home Instead CAREGivers can also complete further training in specialist dementia care, advanced dementia care and supportive palliative care.

Home Instead timeline: A history of caring for seniors

Bringing Home Instead to Australia…

In 2005, Home Instead opened in Australia, founded out of necessity by our founders Martin and Sarah Warner, who were left empty-handed in their search for suitable in-home care and companionship service for their ageing parents. And soon after, the first office of Home Instead was opened in Brisbane, Queensland. Since then, Home Instead has provided Australian seniors with high quality, professional home care and companionship services. As a trusted national network of locally owned offices, we take personal responsibility for providing the best in-home care and support to meet our clients’ needs. We are committed to addressing your individual needs, and keeping you as comfortable and independent as possible in your own home.

With Home Instead, expect passionate dedication, extraordinary service and authentic care, no matter your needs. Our personal and lifestyle assistance includes general personal care, home help, companionship, respite care, dementia care, 24/7 care, transport, palliative care and care management.

Home Instead currently operates in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia.

Giving back and inspiring change!

Each day, Home Instead CAREGivers are invited into the homes of older Australians. It is an honour to work with and share in the lives of seniors and their families. We believe that older Australians are very special people to be respected, to be honoured, and above all to be treated with dignity. Below are just a few of the ways we contribute to building better communities for seniors and inspiring new perspectives on ageing.

Our Care Philosophy

To you, it’s about making the right choice. To us, it’s personal.

You can’t always be there, but we can. Your loved one may have recently been discharged from hospital and require temporary assistance with cooking, laundry and transportation. They may be less mobile and experience challenges with activities of daily living. Or they may be living with dementia and could benefit from ongoing help with medication reminders and companionship.

No matter the circumstances, each Home Instead client is unique and we tailor our personalised care to suit the individual needs and preferences of every person we care for. We are most comfortable when we are at home. We feel, safe, secure and relaxed. And this feeling is even more significant as we age. The fact is 90% of Australians want to live in their own home as they grow older and we are committed to helping seniors and their families achieve this.

Whether we provide a bit of home help and companionship, or support people with high-care needs, chronic disease or terminal illness, approaching their end of life, they can continue to live safely, independently and comfortably in their own home with the right in-home care and support.

Our CAREGivers serve as your trusted partner, delivering the quality care services your family needs to continue living safely, independently and happily at home.
